Thousands run for Runtalya |
Russian and Kenyan athletes dominated the fourth Runtalya race, an annual marathon held yesterday in the western city of Antalya. Kenyan runner John Musile Kioko won the men’s marathon in 2 hours, 17 minutes 57 seconds, while runner-up Roman Efimov, from Russia, trailed 24 seconds behind. Ethiopian Tesfaye Bogale Reta came in third. Nadezda Semiletova of Russia won the women’s race in 2:44:15, ahead of Kenyan runners Rose Chesire and Salome Jerono Biwot.

Unlike many sectors being forced to downsize, Turkey’s tourism industry targets 10 percent growth this year, an official from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announces. Turkey especially expects a boost in tourists from many Middle Eastern countries.
Despite the economic crisis, Turkey’s tourism will grow by 10 percent, according to İbrahim Yazar, assistant general manager of publicity, Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Held every year by the Akdeniz University to provide youth with an "us" instead of "me" attitude and contribute to their mental and physical development, the 9th Street Football Tournament will take place again March 28. Supported by many governmental and nongovernmental organisations in Antalya, the tournament aims to contribute to the development of youth aged between 10 and 12 through football. Every team in the tournament will comprise 6 footballers, five of whom are on the pitch and one substitute.

Belek region needs new football fields |
Hosting preparatory camps for football teams from all over the world, Antalya’s Belek and Kadriye districts are in need of new football pitches. Saying that football tourism first began in Belek, Yusuf Mecek, Belek mayor, also added: "Belek is the center of Turkish football tourism. It is of urgent need to form new football fields in the district to attract more football teams in coordination with the people dealing with tourism." |
