Brits increasingly prefer Turkey as a vacation destination over other European countries, a tourism sector expert has said. The global economic crisis has caused the pound to lose value against the euro, said Volkan Şimşek, chairman of Professional Hotel Executives, or POYD, and many British tourists prefer to spend their holidays in non-eurozone countries. |

Sand Festival hits 20,000-visitor mark |

The International Sand Sculpture Festival in Antalya has attracted 20,000 visitors since its opening in May, the festival’s director has said. Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, festival Director Cem Karaca said this year’s festival, the main theme of which is “mythology,” has been a success. |

Miss Siberia wins Miss Eurasia in Antalya |

Valerya Blikova of Siberia won the "Miss Eurasia" beauty contest held in the Mediterranean city of Antalya. It was the first time Turkey hosted the contest. Sixteen girls from Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Siberia and Slovenia competed in the final of the beauty contest at the Grand Ring Hotel in Antalya's Beldibi hamlet. Alena Masyukova of Russia was the runner-up, and Polina Povlovets of Belarus became third. |
