Ulrich Voight of Germany, who won the championship six times in the last nine years, finished the 18th World Puzzle Championship first, while Peter Hudok from Slovenia was second. Turkish puzzler Mehmet Murat Sevim, who was a runner-up in last year’s competition, finished third. The winner in the teams’ category was Germany with 12,182 points, trailed by the United States with 10,843 points and Japan with 9,902. Turkey finished in the eighth place with 8,431 points while first-time participant Israel came last with only 160 points. Voight said he was happy to have reclaimed the world title. “I love puzzles and I am fast, I think that is why I am successful, he said. “I will continue to participate in these competitions until the day I stop loving to solve puzzles.” Sevim said he was content with his result. “It is especially nice to have claimed a spot in the top three at an event organized in my home country,” he added. Nearly 150 people from 27 countries attended the event, organized at Delphin Diva Premiere Hotel located in Belek. Roughly 100 participants competed over the logic puzzles. The event was supported by the Antalya municipality and several local companies. |
